Simply,
Adware is terminology for Advertisements that we see on our computer
desktop when we browse the Internet, they pop-up on our screens
advertising certain products.
Some
companies provide "free" software on the Internet in
exchange for this form of advertising, hoping you will purchase
their full product without the numerous adverts associated with
it.
Unfortunately
these adverts (adware programs) are now being used to embed code
that enables these developers/individuals to access our personal
information which, third parties associated with that company/individual
can use to send their own advertisements that are saved secretly
to our computers. All this is done without either our knowledge
or authorisation. This practice has been dubbed spyware and has
completely undermined honest companies and individuals who just
want to display a simple advert. Spyware has prompted an outcry
from computer security and privacy advocates around the World. Regretfully,
however, the number of disreputable programmers infecting our computers
has been considerably underestimated.
At
present a huge crackdown on Spyware is under way; Anti-spyware
Laws have already passed in the United States and are at present
being discussed in our own House of Commons. It is a global invasion
of privacy.
